O’Mahony calls for works to start immediately to prevent flooding in both Hollymount and Roundfort

MAYO Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, is calling for the immediate implementation of works to prevent further flooding in both Hollymount and Roundfort. Deputy O’Mahony has learned that the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) has expressed its concern in relation to the proposed programme of works by the Office of Public Works to deal with the flooding.

“It’s my understanding that the NPWS have environmental concerns about the works proposed by the OPW to deal with the flooding at both Hollymount and Roundfort. If this wasn’t so serious it would be funny as flooding in both localities takes place each year and inconveniences so many people and prevents them from going around their normal every day business.

“We have had reports after reports in how to deal with this and now we have the NPWS expressing more concerns. What about the concerns of the local people? Are they not the most important concerns?. The OPW have detailed how they want to go about and deal with the problem and they should be given the go ahead to start work there immediately,” he said.
