Dublin will be outstanding European Capital for Sport in 2010 – O’Mahony

Fine Gael Sports Spokesperson, John O’Mahony TD, has welcomed the fact that Dublin will be European Sports Capital next year saying that the city is an outstanding and deserved choice.”It was a tremendous honour for Dublin to be chosen and, in just three months, the city will begin its tenure.

“The choice of Dublin is not only a rich tribute to Ireland for but also recognition for the facilities that are in place and, more importantly, for the thousands of individuals who selflessly give their time and effort to sport. Dublin and Ireland is known not just for Croke Park but also for those who spend hours on sidelines, in gyms or on the road volunteering their time for others.

€116,196,000 spent on Legal aid in the past 3 years O’Mahony

Mayo Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, has called for a review of the Legal Aid system. According to figures obtained by Deputy O’Mahony, over €116,196,000 has been paid to solicitors firms in the state in the past three years and while Deputy O’Mahony is not questioning the validity of the claims by the solicitors, he believes that a significant portion of the defendants who benefit from the system would be in a position to pay for their own defence.

Speech and Language screening service is unable to carry out new referrals – O’Mahony

MAYO Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, has learned that for the first time in twenty years Speech and Language Therapists in Mayo will be unable to carry out their annual screening service for new referrals. Deputy O’Mahony has also discovered that despite being given approval to fill one vacancy in the county, they are unable to fill the position because they can only recruit from the national panel. Yet, in a further twist, Deputy O’Mahony has been informed that no such panel exists.

Ministers confirms Ballinrobe Garda Station hours will not be extended O’Mahony

MAYO Fine Gael TD, John O’Mahony, has learned that there are no plans in place to increase either the opening hours or garda resources at Ballinrobe Garda Station.
Deputy O’Mahony tabled a Dail question to the Minister for Justice, querying the situation and yesterday he was told that the status quo will remain in Ballinrobe.
