Deputy O’Mahony said the issue first came to light last week when a constituent rang him in relation to the incident. “The lady was traumatised and after listening to her it was easy understand why. She had accompanied her husband to Mayo General Hospital where he had a serious procedure carried out while lying on a trolley. After the procedure was completed he was discharged and told to make his way home but there was no ambulance available to him. She didn’t know what to do and it was only because of the kindness of a senior nurse who noticed their predicament and organised for a taxi to bring them home that they were able to relax. Read more

O’Mahony forces Dáil debate on the closure of Harristown House

I thank the Ceann Comhairle for selecting for discussion the closing down of Harristown House, the only public alcohol and drug treatment centre in the country funded by the probation service. Harristown House was established in 1998 as a residential treatment centre for offenders with alcohol and/or drug-related offences. It was originally supposed to take referrals from the courts only but in recent years has also taken referrals from the prisons. Read more
